Majority of Canadians do not use health benefits provided to
them by employers. The highest rate of usage is for the employees in the age
group of 55 to 59 year old demographic. But even in this group the rate of
usage is about 50%.
In the above mentioned group over 80% used their dental
benefits (mostly for checkups) followed by 50% for the vision care. The usage
of paramedical services in this age group is as follow: massage therapy (27%), physiotherapy (15%), & chiropractic (18%). Due to small number of osteopaths, pedorthists and athletic therapists in Canada, statistics were not available for these professions.
We at the National University of Medical Sciences urge students to choose osteopathy as their career of choice. There is a severe shortage of osteopaths in Canada (the province of Ontario needs at least 2,500 more osteopaths). By becoming an osteopath you can offer this amazing health profession to the Canadians.
